Cardivas is used alone or together with other medicines to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). High blood pressure adds to the workload of the heart and arteries. If it continues for a long time, the heart and arteries may not function properly. This can damage the blood vessels of the brain, heart, and kidneys, resulting in a stroke, heart failure, or kidney failure. High blood pressure may also increase the risk of heart attacks. These problems may be less likely to occur if blood pressure is controlled.
Cardivas is also used to prevent further worsening of congestive heart failure. It is also used to treat left ventricular dysfunction after a heart attack. Left ventricular dysfunction occurs when the left ventricle (the main pumping chamber of the heart) stiffens and enlarges and can cause the lungs to fill with blood.
Cardivas belongs to a group of medicines called beta-adrenergic blocking agents, beta-blocking agents, or more commonly, beta-blockers. Beta-blockers work by affecting the response to some nerve impulses in certain parts of the body. As a result, they decrease the heart’s need for blood and oxygen by reducing its workload. They also help the heart to beat more regularly.
Cardivas may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Warnings: Don't stop taking the medication without talking to your doctor first. Stopping Cardivas 6.25 Tablet 10's gradually may cause changes in your heart rhythm and blood pressure, cause chest pain, or a heart attack. Your doctor will lower your dose gradually over a period of time to help prevent these symptoms. Cardivas 6.25 Tablet 10's can cause low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia). This medication should be used with caution if you have diabetes, particularly if you are taking insulin or other diabetes drugs that may cause low blood sugar. This medication can also induce low blood sugar in babies, children and adults who do not have diabetes.Do not take Cardivas 6.25 Tablet 10's if you have asthma or similar breathing difficulties. It could make your asthma severe.
Medicine Interaction: Cardivas 6.25 Tablet 10's is known to contra-indicate when taken along with other beta-blockers (such as acebutolol, atenolol, bisoprolol, carteolol, esmolol, metoprolol, nadolol, nebivolol or sotalol), ACE inhibitors (such as lisinopril or enalapril), calcium channel blockers such as (diltiazem), asthma medications (theophylline) or any (ibuprofen).

Side Effects: Signs of an allergic reaction to Cardivas: hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Call your doctor at once if you have a serious side effect such as:
a light-headed feeling, like you might pass out,
slow or uneven heartbeats,
swelling, rapid weight gain, feeling short of breath (even with mild exertion),
cold feeling or numbness in your fingers or toes,
chest pain, dry cough, wheezing, chest tightness, trouble breathing or
high blood sugar (increased thirst, increased urination, hunger, dry mouth, fruity breath odor, drowsiness, dry skin, blurred vision, weight loss).
