Augmentin is a penicillin antibiotic.
Augmentin contains a combination of Augmentin and Clavulanate potassium (Augmentin). Augmentin is an antibiotic in a group of drugs called penicillins. Augmentin fights bacteria in the body.
Clavulanate potassium (Augmentin) is a form of clavulanic acid, which is similar to penicillin. Clavulanate potassium (Augmentin) fights bacteria that is often resistant to penicillins and other antibiotics.
Augmentin is used to treat many different infections caused by bacteria, such as sinusitis, pneumonia, ear infections, bronchitis, urinary tract infections, and infections of the skin.

Prescription: Yes
Warnings: After taking Augmentin 625 Tablet 10's, if you have an allergy-like symptom, including rash, swelling of the face/lips/throat, difficulty in breathing, or tightness in the chest, immediately contact your doctor. Do not take Augmentin 625 Tablet 10's if you have an allergy to Augmentin 625 Tablet 10's, penicillin or cephalosporin class of antibiotics as it may cause skin rash, itching, and difficulty in breathing. People having a liver disease or jaundice (yellowing of skin/eye) should not take Augmentin 625 Tablet 10's, as it can damage your liver severely. You may have diarrhea in some cases, which can be managed by taking it with any probiotics and plenty of fluids.
Medicine Interaction: Augmentin 625 Tablet interacts with allopurinol, which is used to treat redness and tenderness in the joints (gout). Patients using amoxicillin with allopurinol may experience the increased occurrence of rashes as compared to patients taking amoxicillin alone. It is unknown whether the increased incidence of rashes is due to the combined usage of amoxicillin with allopurinol or due to increased levels of uric acid (hyperuricemia) in patients. There may be an interaction of Augmentin 625 with oral anticoagulants (acenocoumarol and warfarin), which are used to prevent blood clotting. The use of amoxicillin in combination with oral anticoagulants may abnormally increase the bleeding time in patients. Careful monitoring of blood clotting parameter, with the use or withdrawal of amoxicillin and dose adjustment of oral anticoagulants, is recommended in patients using anticoagulants with Augmentin 625.
