Zen RETARD is used to treat certain types of seizures (epilepsy). It is also used to relieve pain due to trigeminal neuralgia (tic douloureux) and in the treatment of bipolar disorder (manic-depressive illness). Zen RETARD works in the brain and nervous system to control seizures, pain, and bipolar disorder. Zen RETARD is an anticonvulsant.
Zen RETARD is available only with your doctor’s prescription.
Once a medicine has been approved for marketing for a certain use, experience may show that it is also useful for other medical problems. Although these uses are not included in product labeling, Zen RETARD is used in certain patients with the following medical conditions:
Alcohol withdrawal.
Bipolar disorder (manic-depressive illness), prevention.
Central partial diabetes insipidus (water diabetes).
Neurogenic pain (a type of continuing pain).
Psychotic disorders (severe mental illness).

Warnings: Do not take Zen Retard-200 Tablet 10's if you are allergic to 'Carbamezapine' or any of its contents, have serious heart problems, blood illnesses, bone marrow problems, hypothyroidism, glaucoma, urinary retention, osteoporosis or taking anti-depressants called monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAO's) within the last 14 days or taking herbal preparations containing St. John's wort as an antidepressant. Inform the doctor if you have low sodium levels in the blood or take medicines that could lower the blood's sodium levels, or using hormonal contraceptives. Do not stop taking Zen Retard-200 Tablet 10's without consulting your doctor to avoid worsening of seizures episodes. Do not take Zen Retard-200 Tablet 10's if you are pregnant unless prescribed by the doctor as Zen Retard-200 Tablet 10's might cause serious congenital disabilities. It is safe to take Zen Retard-200 Tablet 10's while breastfeeding; however, consult your doctor immediately if you think that the baby is having side-effects like excessive sleepiness, skin reactions or yellowing of skin or eyes. Zen Retard-200 Tablet 10's causes drowsiness and dizziness, so drive only if you are alert. Zen Retard-200 Tablet 10's should not be given to people less than 18 years of age until and unless prescribed by the doctor. Avoid consuming alcohol along with Zen Retard-200 Tablet 10's as it could lead to increased dizziness and sleepiness. Consult your doctor immediately if you experience suicidal tendencies or mood swings.
Medicine Interaction: Zen Retard-200 Tablet 10's may have interaction with antipsychotic (aripiprazole, quetiapine), anti-anxiety (alprazolam), anti-depressant (amitriptyline, duloxetine, sertraline, fluoxetine), antibiotics (erythromycin), pain killer (codeine, oxycodone, acetaminophen, tramadol), anti-convulsant (gabapentin, lamotrigine, pregabalin, phenytoin, topiramate), anti-thyroid (levothyroxine), antipsychotic (lithium), insomnia (melatonin), anti-coagulant (warfarin), antihistamine (diphenhydramine), and vitamin (cholecalciferol).
Side Effects: Signs of an allergic reaction to Zen RETARD: hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Report any new or worsening symptoms to your doctor, such as: sudden mood or behavior changes, depression, anxiety, insomnia, or if you feel agitated, hostile, restless, irritable, or have thoughts about suicide or hurting yourself. Call your doctor at once if you have: the first sign of any skin rash, no matter how mild, slow, fast, or pounding heartbeats, feeling light-headed or short of breath, blood problems--sudden weakness or ill feeling, fever, chills, pale skin, sore throat, bleeding gums, nosebleeds, liver problems--Nausea, upper stomach pain, itching, tiredness, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes), low levels of sodium in the body--headache, confusion, slurred speech, severe weakness, feeling unsteady, severe skin reaction--fever, sore throat, swelling in your face or tongue, burning in your eyes, skin pain followed by a red or purple skin rash that spreads (especially in the face or upper body) and causes blistering and peeling. Common Zen RETARD side effects may include: dizziness, loss of coordination, problems with walking, Nausea, vomiting or drowsiness.
