Ciprobid is used to treat bacterial infections in many different parts of the body. Ciprobid oral liquid and tablets are also used to treat anthrax infection after inhalational exposure. Ciprobid may mask or delay the symptoms of syphilis. It is not effective against syphilis infections.
Ciprobid extended-release tablets are only used to treat urinary tract infections, including acute uncomplicated pyelonephritis.
Proquin XR tablets are only used to treat uncomplicated or simple urinary tract infections (acute cystitis).
Ciprobid belongs to the class of drugs known as quinolone antibiotics. It works by killing bacteria or preventing their growth. However, Ciprobid will not work for colds, flu, or other virus infections.

Warnings: Do not take Ciprobid 500 Tablet 10's if you are allergic or have had a severe reaction to ciprofloxacin or any other quinolone or fluoroquinolone antibiotic such as delafloxacin gemifloxacin, levofloxacin, moxifloxacin and ofloxacin. Taking Ciprobid 500 Tablet 10's may increase the chances of developing tendinitis (swelling of a fibrous tissue that connects a bone to a muscle) or have a tendon rupture (tearing of a fibrous tissue that connects a bone to a muscle). Inform your doctor if you have or have ever had a kidney, heart, or lung transplant, kidney disease, a joint or tendon disorder such as rheumatoid arthritis (auto immune disorder of joints causing pain, swelling, and loss of function), seizures (fits), epilepsy or if you participate in regular physical Activity. Taking Ciprobid 500 Tablet 10's may worsen muscle weakness in people with myasthenia gravis (a disorder of the nervous system that causes muscle weakness) and cause severe difficulty breathing or death. Dairy products should be avoided along with Ciprobid 500 Tablet 10's. And also, exposure to sunlight should be avoided while taking Ciprobid 500 Tablet 10's as it may cause increased phototoxicity or photosensitivity. Patients with epilepsy, and irregular heartbeat (especially a condition known as QT prolongation) should tell their doctor before taking Ciprobid 500 Tablet 10's.
Medicine Interaction: This medicine may have an interaction with blood thinners (such as warfarin), antidepressants and antipsychotics (like clozapine, olanzapine), caffeine containing medications, insulin or other anti diabetic medications (like chlorpropamide, glimepiride, glipizide, glyburide, tolazamide, and tolbutamide), medications for regulating irregular heartbeat (like amiodarone, disopyramide, procainamide, quinidine), pain killers (like ibuprofen and naproxen).

Side Effects: Signs of an allergic reaction to Ciprobid: hives, or the first sign of a skin rash, fast heartbeat, difficult breathing, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Ciprobid may cause swelling or tearing of (rupture) a tendon. Ciprobid can also have serious effects on your nerves, and may cause permanent nerve damage. Stop using Ciprobid and call your doctor at once if you have: severe stomach pain, diarrhea that is watery or bloody, headache with chest pain and severe dizziness, fainting, fast or pounding heartbeats, muscle pain or weakness, a seizure (convulsions), signs of tendon rupture - sudden pain, swelling, bruising, tenderness, stiffness, movement problems, or a snapping or popping sound in any of your joints (rest the joint until you receive medical care or instructions), nerve symptoms - numbness, weakness, tingling, burning, pain, or being more sensitive to temperature, light touch, or the sense of your body position, changes in mood or behavior - depression, confusion, hallucinations, paranoia, tremors, feeling restless or anxious, unusual thoughts or behavior, insomnia, nightmares, liver problems - upper stomach pain, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes), increased pressure inside the skull - severe headaches, ringing in your ears, vision problems, pain behind your eyes or severe skin reaction - skin pain followed by a red or purple skin rash that spreads (especially in the face or upper body) and causes blistering and peeling. Common Ciprobid side effects may include: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, rash or abnormal liver function tests.
